Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer II coordinates the activities of the mechanical drafting team, assists in the creation of production drawings, ensures designs meet requirements set by customers and our own internal standards as well as provides technical guidance to mechanics and sheet metal fabricators.

Essential Job Functions:

• Troubleshoots mechanical discrepancies on trainers and/or aircraft as required.
• Assists in creating production drawings for machined parts, sheet metal fabrication, and mechanical sub-assemblies.
• Works with program management to develop cost and schedule baselines and targets and to ensure programs are staffed with the appropriate personnel.
• Ensures all designs meet both internal and customer requirements and design standards.
• Assists in the development of process improvement programs to reduce development time, improve product quality and manufacturability and reduce product cost.
• Deals with vendors on a technical basis in receiving assistance during troubleshooting, requesting RMA numbers to return equipment as required, and requesting quotes in acquiring future equipment.
• May coordinate the efforts of drafters, technical writers, engineering technicians and machine shop personnel as required.
• Provides mentorship, leadership, and technical guidance to mechanics and technicians.
• Recommends design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or processes.
• Must be capable of safely handling government furnished equipment and materials.
• Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
• Performs other duties as required.



 
Background Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Solid Works.
• Must have knowledge of ASME Y14.100-2000 & Y14.5-1994 drawings.
• Must have knowledge of various fabrication and assembly including metal machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
• Knowledge of industry and military specifications for materials, parts and processes preferred.
• Must have creativity, innovation, commitment to excellence with the ability to work in a diverse and fast paced environment.
• Must work well in a team environment.
• Must be able to travel.

Education:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. Graduate degree preferred.

Experience:

• Two (2) or more years applicable mechanical engineering experience required.
• Prior military with aviation maintenance experience a plus.
• Working knowledge of 3D scanning equipment a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project required.
